Abstract

ABSTRACT

          This study aims to determine the effect of emotional intelligence on employee performance at the Lawang Wetan District Office, Musi Banyuasin Regency. The research method used was a quantitative approach with data collection conducted through questionnaires distributed to 36 respondents. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 26, including validity tests, reliability tests, simple linear regression analysis, correlation analysis, coefficient of determination analysis, and hypothesis testing (t-test). The results showed that all statement items were valid, with calculated r-values greater than the r-table value (0.3291), and reliable, with Cronbach’s Alpha values of 0.751 for the emotional intelligence variable and 0.767 for the employee performance variable. The simple linear regression analysis produced the equation Y = 10.717 + 0.912X, indicating a positive effect of emotional intelligence on employee performance. The correlation coefficient (R) value of 0.733 indicated a strong relationship between emotional intelligence and employee performance, while the coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.538 or 53.8% showed the contribution of emotional intelligence to employee performance. The results of the t-test showed that the calculated t-value was 6.288, which was greater than the t-table value of 2.032, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that emotional intelligence has a positive and significant effect on employee Performance.
